Assist Your Wards In School Selection – Parents Urged

Candidates who sat for the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) are required to select Six Second Cycle Institutions in which they will be enrolled.

Speaking in an interview on Spice 91.9 FM, the Public Relations Officer for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Education Service, Madam Charity Baah explained that the schools are divided into 4 categories to enable candidates to select schools based on their capabilities.

According to her, Second Cycle institutions are grouped under Categories A, B, C, and D Senior High Schools and candidates are required to choose from each categories.

” Just as candidates were made to select 6 schools, the same will be applied this time around.

The schools are grouped into categories A, B, C, and D. Every candidate can pick only one school from category A, two from categories B and C respectively , and one from category D,” She said.

Each of these categories has several Schools listed under them, which include Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) & Technical Institutes (TVET) across the country.

Charity Baah remarked that” it is not compulsory for candidates to select technical schools as part of the requirement but can choose a TVET institution if they so wish”.

She further stated that a total of Nine Hundred and Eleven ( 911) Schools are available to Five Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy Six (552,276) candidates to select from. She added that placement is by merit and candidates must be guided accordingly during the selection.

To ensure a smooth placement of qualified BECE candidates, parents and guardians are encouraged to assist their wards in the process of school selection.

“I urge parents to collaborate with teachers to help students to make the right choice of schools according to their strengths and capabilities,”
