Tension Mounts In Ahanta West Amidst Brutalities

There is tension in Dixcove near Agona-Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) of the Western Region after a Sub-Chief of Upper Dixcove was beaten to a pulp by some unknown assailants while Nana Diako Kra was stripped naked and assaulted in public by a group of young men on Monday, upon his return from the Lower Dixcove.

A police report say at about 10:56 am on Monday, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove called the police to say that he had information that the mother of Obrempong Hima Dekyi XVI and other chiefs from Upper Dixcove were being attacked at Torome but have been rescued to his palace.

Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX was, therefore, asking for the police to quickly intervene to save the situation.

Meanwhile, Police say the actual cause of the attack on the chief is not immediately known.

The report said, “Immediately after this call, Obrempong Hima Dekyi XVI of Upper Dixcove also called to say that his mother and some Chiefs of Upper Dixcove are being attacked at Lower Dixcove Palace.”

According to the Police, they mobilised and moved to Dixcove and met Nana Diako Kra with a swollen face being escorted to board a vehicle to the hospital.

The Police took him into their vehicle and proceeded to Lower Dixcove Palace where six of the victims were met sitting inside the palace.

Those rescued were Nana Dekyi Manza, Queen Mother of Torome; Christiana Akua Yeboah, mother of Obrempong Hima Dekyi XVI; Charlotte Yeboah, Nana Diako Kra, Jona Aidoo and Sadick Shobajo.

The victims were therefore sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH) for treatment while the police continued with their investigation on the incident.

For sometime now there have been several attacks meted out to residents of Upper Dixcove believed to be perpetrated by the followers of Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX over a long standing land litigations.

Recently, the mother and family members of Obrempong Hima Dekyi XVI were prevented from entering the Torome land in an attempt to visit their properties and invited to the Palace of Lower Dixcove Paramountcy where they were beaten by mob for no apparent reason.

The brother of Obrempong Hima Dekyi XVI was also attacked on his way to the same land by the same mob.

Somewhere last year, the Upper Dixcove Paramountcy installed a chief on Torome land because it was vacant and in an attempt to send the chief and the Queen Mothers to the land, they were met with mob attack and beaten severely rendering some naked.

Last year, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX was allegedly accused of installing a chief in one of the communities which already has a chief when the President was going to cut sod for the construction of a sea defence wall.

His followers also provoked the residents and prevented them from entering their own land, without regard to intervention from the police.

In recent times, residents in Upper Dixcove are also faced with dynamite attacks on a daily basis. All these incidents have been reported to the police but to no avail.
