IGP to Investigate Assault Case of Connect FM’s Journalist

The Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has taken over investigations into the case involving the producer of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show, Eric Nana Gyetuah who was brutally assaulted by some police personnel in Takoradi on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Some fully armed men in plain uniforms were spotted eating with some handcuffed men at the God is Love chop bar, a very popular chop bar in Takoradi.

This was a very unusual scene, and as such attracted  the attention of the public.

Eric Nana Gyetuah who had also gone there to eat spotted them and decided to take some shots.

Unfortunately, for him, one of the men saw him and demanded his phone. When Gyetuah refused to hand over the phone, he called his other colleagues and then started assaulting him.

He was kicked, slapped, stamped on with their boots and his face hit with the butts of their guns. He was later handcuffed, bundled into the bucket of their vehicle and sent to the regional police headquarters where he was asked to write his statement and later bailed.

Meanwhile, Gyetuah was asked to report to the police on Tuesday but the IGP called him on Monday and told him not to.

He has however promised to deal with the issue.
