EKMA: 55year Old Helena Yankey Wins Overall Best Farmer

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly has rewarded a 55 year old woman, Madam Helena Yankey, as the overall best farmer of the Assembly for her outstanding performance and contributions toward the agriculture sector in the Assembly in the calendar year 2021.

The occasion took place on Friday at the Whindo community park to commemorate the 37th Farmer’s Day Anniversary which is celebrated across the country to honor the effort of all farmers.

The day was simultaneously celebrated across every part of the country under the theme Planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating Food Systems In Ghana.

The Assembly presented the following items to acknowledge Madam Helena Yankey’s exceptional efforts toward cultivating variety of crops incuding, plantain, coconut, pepper, cassava and oil plam plantation on a large scale.

She received a certificate with 1 Rosette, 10 cutlasses, 5 wellington boots, 5 bags of Lime, 3 bags of NPK fertilizer(Fertilizer), 1 Tricycle (Aboboyaa), USD/SD Card Music player, 1 wax print , 1 Box of Weedicides, 1 32 inches TV set, and 1 Knapsack sprayer.

She used the occation to thank the Assembly for such an opportunity meanwhile, he complained about the high cost of insecticide and its limited supply and called for an improvement.

The first runner up also went to Mr. Fuseni Iddrisu, Ampremdo from Whindo while the 2nd runner up was also awarded to Mr. James Yawson from Whindo

Madam Vida Boakye

Other categories including Municipal Best Crop former, Municipal Best Agriculture worker, Physically Challenged Farmer, Municipal Best Non- Traditional Farmer, Best Institution of the year and Municipal Best Poultry Farmer went to Madam Monica Baido, Mr Isaac Osei Boateng, Mr Francis N.K Yalley, Mr. Reginald Nuamah , 2nd Battalion Infantory and Madam Vida Boakye respectively.

Hon kwodo Acquah, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly applauded the Effia constituency for providing Most of the food crop Consumed in the Metropolis especially vegetables, and urged the farmers to support the planting for food and Jobs program to ensure that government 1.5 billion investment into the initiative will yield the expected benefit.

Speaking about impending developmental projects, the MCE assured of an altra modern Toilet facility for the Windo Market and completion of the Windo road latest by 15th December since the engineer is 80 percent done and waiting for to complete few process for work to commence.

He expressed his appreciation applauded the Member of Parliament for kwesimistim and Effia consitutency for supporting the overall Winner and first runner up with finance and the tricycles.

Prices Hamidu Armah appreciated the effort for farmers for feeding the country in the era of COVID-19 amid the boarder closure. He also appreciate the people for voting for him as member of Parliament. He

The official Ghana Farmer’s Day on the first Friday in December, December 3 this year, celebrates the country’s farmers and fishermen.
