Western Region to be a ‘Model Region’ For Business Investment – Minister

As part of efforts to spur development and complement the effort of the Central Government, the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) is aspiring to make Western Region a ‘Model Region’ in Ghana anchored on what it called, “Enterprise Western Region and Entrepreneurial Governance”.

This is expected to forge a close collaboration for the private sector to effectively engage in the productive assets of the Region to create the necessary synergies to enhance productivity for job and wealth creation.

The WRCC is of the firm belief that, the private sector is the game changer and has the potential to employ a lot more and facilitate the overall development of the Region and the country at large when given the necessary support and assistance.

It is therefore within this context that, the WRCC, under the able leadership of Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has for the second time come up with the initiative dubbed “Business Awards”.

This was contained in a statement issued by the WRCC and signed by the Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and copied to Beachfmonline.

He explained that the Awards is in recognition of individuals who have over the years contributed immensely in their various fields of endeavours towards the sustenance and development of the Region.

This year’s Awards, he noted is also to acknowledge outstanding private businesses in the Region that showed resilience, profitability and created job opportunities in the face of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He said such individuals have been selected by the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) based on merit vis-a-vis their achievement and contribution to the socio-economic development of their area.

Dr Darko-Mensah also acknowledged the selfless service and the sacrifices by some great sons of the Region whose legacies are worthy of emulation as we mark Founders’ Day.

However, he cautioned that as we continue to work hard and strive to preserve lives and livelihoods in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, adherence to health and safety protocols was key to keeping the virus at bay.

He observed that the compulsory wearing of nose masks, frequent washing of hands under running water with soap, social distancing among others have now become the new normal.

“Let us be mindful that the new Delta Variant, which has been reported within the Ghanaian population is more deadly with a very high rate of transmission. The fight against this deadly virus is a shared responsibility and we must not lose our guards down”, he stressed.

Dr Darko-Mensah also congratulated all awardees and encouraged all and sundry to support the Government in their own small way for a Better Ghana, as we continue to protect ourselves, our families, our loved ones and mother Ghana.
