NHIA launches Week Celebration to register more members in Western Region

The Western Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has embarked on a route march to create awareness on the operations of the Scheme in order to register more members.

The celebration which commenced today, Monday, November 9 is expected to end on Friday, November 13, 2020 and is under the theme, “NHIS: Leaving no one behind”.

Staff of the Scheme embarked on the float through the principal streets of Sekondi-Takoradi especially, within the Central Business District (CBD), Kojokrom Sub-Metro and ended at the Regional Office of the Authority in Sekondi.

While on the float, staff sensitized the residents on registration procedures using the mobile platforms by dialling the shortcode *929# and following the prompts.

Speaking in an interview with Spice News, Mr Emmanuel Reinfred Okyere, Western Regional Director of NHIA hinted that his outfit has targeted about 438,340 more active memberships in the month of November 2020.

He said, the Directorate at the beginning of the year 2020 set the target of registering 1,107,330 members onto the Scheme but has so far registered 668,990 hence, the drive to register the aforementioned figures beginning from today.

“We will be in the communities within the various districts to register people from today to Sunday while some designated churches would be hosting the registration team for mass registration exercise. And on Friday, our Moslem brothers at the mosques will have their turn”, he opined.

He said, a waiver has been put on the one month waiting before cards can be active for use and called on the public to as a matter of urgency go and renew their cards and if they have not registered with the Scheme should take the advantage and register till the offer is over.

Meanwhile, he explained that registration was not free for the general public except pregnant mothers and children below the age of 18 who have to pay the prescribed premium required to be enrolled onto the scheme.

He emphasized the impact of the most innovative Mobile Renewal Service and urged the general public to continue using the system for their membership renewals. 

“This is a chance to get in with the public to educate them on the benefits of the Health Insurance, encourage people to renew their registration and generally interact and really make sure we’re meeting the needs of the people,” he divulged.
