A local governance expert, Amon Quartey has pointed out that increasing the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) from the current 5% to 7.5% in the budgetary allocations to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) would not be enough if we want to champion development in the Districts Assemblies.
He proposed that the DACF budgetary allocations should be increased to at least 10% if we want to be serious with our developmental needs to open up the districts and create jobs to prevent people from migrating to the cities to seek greener pastures.
He recounted that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration had 7.5% allocations which was reduced to 5% and even with specifications on which areas to spend the fund by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He stressed that the situation leaves the Assemblies no money to spend on other major projects except that they generate their own funds (IGF) which is often a challenge on the Assemblies.
Mr Quartey who was reacting to issues in the NDC Manifesto launch on “Adzekyee Mu Nsem” on Spice fm in Takoradi bemoaned the practice and said the situation eludes the Assemblies of funds for major developmental projects.
