The Superbowl is finally here. That time of the year where those who do not even understand the most basic rule of American football gather behind their TVs just to watch the Superbowl and the Superbowl performance. If you fall under this category of casual viewers, then I am here to update you on everything you need to know going into Sunday’s game.
This Sunday’s Superbowl is the 57th edition and will be between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. The teams will fight for the Vince Lombardi Trophy at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium will host the Big Game for the third time. When it was known as University of Phoenix Stadium, it hosted Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLIX.
The Philadelphia Eagles has made 3 Superbowl appearances and have won only once in 2018 due to the heroics of Nick Foles who was a backup for their main quarterback Carson Wentz. This year they are led by arguably one of the top five quarter backs currently in the league, Jalen Hurts who has been nothing short of phenomenal. Leading his team to the highest winning record in the NFC and making sure they decimate anyone who has tried standing in their way. Their most outstanding playoff performance came against another Superbowl favorite San Francisco 49ers. Although many would attribute their victory to the injuries San Francisco sustained during the game, one cannot deny the brilliance of Jalen Hurts in overcoming the league’s best defensive unit.
On the other side will line up the Kansas City Chiefs which has the most phenomenal tight end and quarterback combination the league has ever seen since Brady and Gronkowski. The Superbowl stage is not new to Kelce and Mahomes since in the last three Superbowls, they have appeared in two and won one. Mahomes is without a doubt the best quarterback in the league and currently the MVP. Although he was battling a high ankle sprain in their last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, his heroics and deep understanding of the game enabled his team to win by a narrow margin of 23-20. During the regular season the Kansas City Chiefs had to adjust to life after Tyreek Hill, they didn’t show any signs of slowing down finishing first in the AFC.
The anticipated Superbowl halftime show will be headlined by none other than Rihanna. This makes this halftime show one of the most anticipated ones in recent memory since this is the first time she will performing in the past 7 years.
Many people are tipping the Philadelphia Eagles to come out victorious due to their excellent regular season display and playoff performances, one cannot dismiss a Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs who have been here before and know how to perform when it matters most. Either ways get your chilled bottle of your favorite beverage and some popcorn because you thought Superbowl LVI had a dramatic ending, then trust me you are in for the ride of your life.
