Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George has challenged claims of the Vice President that the introduction of Mobile Money Interoperability has created bank accounts for over 15 million Ghanaians.
The vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia revealed in an event in accra that their Promise of bank account for every Ghanaian has been partially fulfilled with their Interoperability platform.
According to the member of Communications committee in parliament, Sam George, the claims of the vice president is untenable.
He explained that aside people have multiple mobile money accounts, subscribers could still transfer money across networks and banks before Nana Addo captured power.
He expressed that mobile money was introduced 11 years ago by the MTN at the time Dr. Bawumia was not a vice president.
He noted that one person have have multiple mobile money accounts so when he (Dr. Bawumia) sees that we have 15 million it doesn’t mean 15 million have mobile money accounts.
