Ghana and Liberia set to engage in an international friendly match in Accra

Accra

The Black Stars conducted their final training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday as part of their preparations for the international friendly match against the Lone Stars of Liberia, scheduled for Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Under the guidance of coach Chris Hughton, all 25 players in the training camp participated. Chris Hughton, who successfully guided Ghana to qualify for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in January next year, oversaw the training session.

Ghana intends to use this match as part of their preparations for upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and the United States of America, as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers commencing in November.

Liberia, having finished third in a group that included African powerhouses Morocco and South Africa, failed to qualify for yet another Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Coach Chris Hughton is expected to provide opportunities to some players who didn’t feature in the game against Central African Republic on Thursday.

Notably, this match marks Ghana’s return to the Accra Sports Stadium for the first time since March 28, 2021, when the Black Stars secured their ninth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations ticket by defeating Sao-Tome and Principe 3-1 in a span of 15 years.
