Alban Bagbin expresses concern over the public’s strong reaction to the raise in MPs’ salaries

Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, expresses concern about the public’s strong reaction to the announcement of a salary increase for Members of Parliament.

Bagbin emphasized that MPs, who bear the brunt of responsibilities in their respective constituencies, should receive fair compensation.

During a public forum in Takoradi, Western Region, Alban Bagbin stated that MPs warrant better compensation.

“Whatever is given to the one you struggled to elect, you are opposed to it. Even though every day you knock at his door to request money to pay school fees and hospital bills, donate to churches, festivals and funerals, you hate to hear that his salary is being increased, there must be a problem,” Alban Bagbin said.

Over the years, MPs have been advocating for an increase in their salaries, asserting that unlike public sector employees, their salaries have not seen an upward adjustment.
