Chief Justice Launches ADR Week In Sekondi With A Call On Ghanaians To Accept ADR As Part Of The Justice Delivery System

The Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, has launched this year’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) week at the Sekondi High Court with a call on court users not to feel sidelined when referred to ADR.

She said ADR is a strong pillar for conflict resolution, and the methods used have gained inclusive importance in the legal landscape because of their representation. adding that, it also helps foster open and constructive dialogue, thereby bringing parties in a dispute together.

ADR is often appreciated as a champion of fairness and equality and also encourages innovative and tailored solutions to problems.

Chief Justice Torkornoo mentioned that cases that are not tried at ADR are criminal cases and felonies.

She again noted that cases being tried in court can still be referred to ADR upon agreement between both parties in dispute, and she also cautioned litigants against paying any fees to anyone after the filing fee has been paid.

The Chief Justice also stressed extensive public awareness as well as training of mediators and arbitrators to enhance ADR activities.

She said that with this type of dispute resolution, the major focus is on the parties involved and their attention and not the lawyers.
