EC set for today’s District Level Elections in postponed areas

Elections

Today, on Thursday, December 21, the Electoral Commission (EC) is scheduled to conduct elections in district assemblies where previous polls were delayed.

Around 40 districts in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions experienced postponements due to ballot paper errors, distribution delays of voting materials, and malfunctioning Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).

There’s been widespread urging among stakeholders for the Commission to ensure smooth and trouble-free subsequent polls.

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) expressed disappointment over the challenges that marred the nationwide District Level Elections (DLEs) held on Tuesday, December 19.

CODEO placed blame on the EC for not meeting its responsibilities and urged the Commission to strive for better performance.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a firm warning to the EC, advising against repeating the technical challenges encountered during the DLEs.

The party cautioned the EC against creating similar disruptions or chaos in the 2024 polls, emphasizing the need to prevent any negative incidents.
