The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has said the Western Region is the ‘bread basket’ of the nation and is faced with countless challenges.

Some of which, he pointed out, are deplorable road networks, basic healthcare infrastructure, and others.

” As a son of the Western Region, I take the liberty of this platform to raise the concern I’m sure many have raised, that has to do with the Western Region and the distribution of the national cake.

As I was talking to you not only about the challenges not only of our road infrastructure but health care.

How in God’s name will you have a region which is the bread basket of this country struggling with a hospital?”

He was speaking at a public forum in Takoradi as part of activities to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 4th Republican Parliament.

Mr Kofi Buah expressed the ordeal that citizens in the various constituencies of the region go through to access some essential healthcare services at the only regional hospital in the area.

He said that developing the Western Region is in the interest of Ghana, as the region contributes abundantly to the national economy but is denied development.

He mentioned that the region, this year gave Ghana 1.4 billion cedis of revenue in oil production. He nonetheless touched on the reconstruction of the railway systems in the region.
