Touching Our Tier 3 Teachers Pension Fund Will Be Suicidal – GNAT

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) says it will be suicidal for any government to touch workers’ pension funds.

The Association has therefore sent a signal that it will fiercely and vigorously resist any attempt to touch any fund under the debt exchange debt structural adjustment program that will shortchange its members.

A statement issued by the General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah said government in its attempt to address the economic challenges facing the country should not take measures at the expense of Ghanaian workers.

The statement noted that GNAT is an interested stakeholder in the domestic market running the teacher’s fund with its subsidiaries, the tier 3 pension scheme, and the Ghana Education Service occupational pension scheme for its members.

According to GNAT, it initiated such financial schemes to make members live meaningful lives.

The statement stated that GNAT is not interested in any exchange of domestic bonds of the country be it ESLA PLC Daakye Trust PLC adding that its stands is non-negotiable.
