Nana Agradaa sentenced to 15 years for fraudulent money-doubling scheme

Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for defrauding members of the public through a bogus money-doubling scheme.

The former traditional priestess turned evangelist was found guilty of charlatanic advertisement and obtaining money by false pretence. The charges stem from a 2022 television broadcast in which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.

Many individuals, persuaded by her promises, handed over large sums but received nothing in return.

Ahead of sentencing, the court ordered a pregnancy test to determine whether she was expecting. The test came back negative, allowing the court to proceed with the judgment.

The ruling has been widely welcomed, with many viewing it as a significant step in the fight against fraudulent religious practices. Authorities have emphasized that the case serves as a warning to others who exploit religion to deceive and defraud the public.
