Unregistered Sim Card Users To Be Restricted In Accessing Mobile Services

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) Dr Ken Ashigbey is urging Ghanaians to register their SIM cards in other not lose access to make calls.

Speaking to the media Dr Ashigbey disclosed that, the Chamber of Communication in collaboration with National Communications Authority will restrict users who have refused to register their sim the privilege to make or receive calls.

He added that individuals who can not use the self-registration app, can visit their various telecommunication offices to get their SIM cards registered.

” We need to find a way in which we prompt customers who have the Ghana card and have the ability to register but are refusing to do it. But we need to separate them with those who have registered. We are going to see some measures which might include when an unregistered customer wants to make a call, they will not be able to make the call for sometime and they will be told that before they will be able to make this call they have to register their sims.
There’s an engagement going on between us and NCA to look at the technical feasibility.

We had about 35,000 people registering and then as of the 20th of August we had 5,800 people registering.
Some people still have Ghana cards, you don’t need the self-registration app. You can just walk to any of your telecommunication offices to register for free,” He stressed.
