President Mahama: AG set to prosecute 33 corruption cases involving former appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the Attorney-General is preparing to prosecute 33 cases of alleged corruption involving officials from the previous government.

These cases stem from investigations conducted by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team, an anti-corruption task force formed by President Mahama after his return to office in the 2024 elections. The five-member team, composed of individuals with strong anti-corruption track records, was tasked with probing suspected financial misconduct during the previous administration.

Members of the ORAL Team include North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, retired Police Commissioner Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer.

Speaking at the Jubilee House during a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption on Tuesday, 3 June, President Mahama announced that the ORAL Team had completed its work and handed over 33 cases to the Attorney-General’s office for prosecution.

“We set up the ORAL Committee, and they have identified 33 cases, which were handed over to the Attorney-General,” he said. “We have also created special investigative teams to support the prosecution of each case.”

He further noted that some investigations had already revealed significant evidence, including the acquisition of properties through illicit means. According to him, several prosecutions are either underway or set to begin soon.

The ORAL Team’s findings are expected to form the foundation for legal action and asset recovery efforts as part of the Mahama administration’s renewed commitment to fighting corruption.
