Ghana’s Washington DC Embassy to reopen May following IT overhaul

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., will reopen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after a temporary closure for a comprehensive upgrade of its information technology (IT) infrastructure and a review of its operational systems.

The closure also followed a significant restructuring at the mission, which included the recall of home-based staff and the suspension of selected local personnel.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the ministry disclosed that a team of seasoned diplomats, led by a senior official, has been deployed to reestablish the embassy’s operations. The team is tasked with driving accountability, instituting structural reforms, and improving service delivery.

An IT team has already been dispatched to revamp the embassy’s website and payment platforms, with a focus on eliminating unauthorized services and strengthening cybersecurity.

The ministry attributed the temporary closure to what it described as “unfortunate circumstances,” which have been formally reported to the Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigation and appropriate action.

To address any pending consular services, the ministry assured the public that systems have been put in place to clear backlogs and resume full operations smoothly. It also extended its apologies for any inconvenience caused by the interruption.

For urgent assistance, the public is encouraged to contact the embassy through the following channels:

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, service excellence, and restoring confidence in Ghana’s diplomatic missions. It emphasized that the reforms are part of a broader agenda to uphold integrity and efficiency in the country’s foreign service.
