Youth not idle—they need opportunities, Minister for Youth Dev’t and Empowerment says

The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has emphasized that young people are not inherently idle but need the right opportunities to realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Speaking at the launch of the Adwumawura Programme in Kumasi, Mr. Opare Addo highlighted the historic nature of his Ministry, noting it is the first in Ghana’s history solely focused on youth development and empowerment. He commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and commitment to youth-focused initiatives.
The Adwumawura Programme is part of a broader government strategy to tackle youth unemployment. Other key initiatives include the One Million Codex Programme and the National Apprenticeship Programme, the latter of which is set to be launched by President Mahama in Tamale later this week.
Addressing the gathering with a sense of pride and humility, Mr. Opare Addo said, “I stand before you today with immense pride and humility as we embark on a significant journey to reshape the narrative of youth empowerment in our beloved nation.”
He praised the government’s commitment to action, not just promises.
He noted, “I would like to take this moment to thank His Excellency, not just for making promises but also for allocating resources to these vital programmes in the 2025 budget.”
In closing, he encouraged young people to embrace the emerging opportunities and take an active role in nation-building.
“This government is dedicated to fostering an environment that nurtures your growth and development. I urge each one of you to seize the opportunities and actively participate in reshaping your future and the futures of generations to come.”
