President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has elaborated on his reasons for selecting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate, a decision of significant political importance.
Akufo-Addo pointed out that Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional qualities, including truthfulness, goal-oriented mindset, and strong commitment to achieving shared objectives, were key factors in his selection.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of regional balance and unity in Ghana’s leadership. He highlighted the unity achieved by having leaders from both the northern and southern regions.
During a recent visit to the Jubilee House, the presidential seat, the President commended Dr. Bawumia for his honesty and direct communication style, expressing his preference for individuals who communicate candidly.
Akufo-Addo’s choice of Dr. Bawumia as his running mate initially raised questions and concerns within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and among political observers due to Dr. Bawumia’s relative obscurity in Ghanaian politics.
Nonetheless, the President stood by his choice, and they went on to contest together in the 2008 and 2012 elections, narrowly missing victory.
However, they secured victory in the 2016 and 2020 elections, serving as President and Vice President for a combined period of six years and ten months.
