Energy Ministry unveils revitalization plans for Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced plans to overhaul the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) to boost its production capacity and operational efficiency.

At a high-level meeting led by Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, discussions took place with the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) and Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) to explore a potential strategic partnership aimed at revitalizing GCMC’s operations.

Hon. Jinapor underscored the company’s critical role in advancing the local manufacturing sector and supporting the government’s clean energy objectives.

He stressed the importance of repositioning GCMC as a leading producer of high-quality LPG cylinders for both domestic and industrial markets.

As part of the initiative, the Minister announced the formation of a committee responsible for developing a comprehensive roadmap for cabinet approval. Following approval, a Joint Project Implementation Committee, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ghana Gas, GCMC, and the Ministry of Finance, will manage the execution of the revitalization plan.

Key industry stakeholders present at the meeting included Mr. Abdul-Rahman Mankir, Acting Managing Director of GCMC; Madam Judith Blay, Acting CEO of Ghana Gas; Dr. Robert Lartey, Deputy CEO of Ghana Gas; and Alhaj Farihan Alhassan, Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank, along with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening local manufacturing, ensuring energy security, and promoting sustainable industrial growth in Ghana.
