President Mahama to inaugurate Constitutional Review Committee
President Mahama will today swear in the eight-member Constitutional Review Committee at the Jubilee House in Accra, following his promise to see the Constitutional Review Process through.
The committee was announced 11 days ago.
The members of the committee include Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh as Chairman, Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah, and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya, who will serve as Secretary.
A statement from the Acting Spokesperson for the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, outlined that President Mahama expects the Committee to identify gaps and challenges in the previous constitutional reviews carried out by the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
The committee will also engage with key stakeholders to gather their input on proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution and provide actionable recommendations to strengthen democratic governance.
The composition of the committee highlights the President’s commitment to involving experts with a proven track record in service to the nation and dedication to good governance. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional amendments within five months for government consideration.
In addition, President Mahama will also swear in Minister-designates who have been approved by Parliament at the Jubilee House.
