The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), in collaboration with CONSHIP Ghana Limited, has provided a new gate to enhance security at the Sekondi School for the Deaf.

The initiative aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students, especially given the school’s proximity to a busy street.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Andres Osei Mensah, Vice President of CILT, highlighted the importance of the project.

“We are here this morning because of the gate you see here. Some time ago, we received a distress call that your gate was destroyed, and there were other pressing needs. CILT took it upon ourselves to see what we could do. We contacted CONSHIP, and they supported us. Together, we raised this gate for security purposes,” he said.

Dr. Mensah also emphasized the vulnerability of the students, noting that the new gate would help prevent accidents.

“Looking at the dynamic nature of the students here, sometimes they may not even hear an approaching vehicle. The gate was necessary to ensure their safety,” he added.

The Headmistress of Sekondi School for the Deaf, Madam Regina Aselifi, expressed her gratitude for the gesture.

“A few weeks after reopening, Dr. Mensah contacted me and assured me that they could start something for us. As promised, they delivered and installed the gate last week. On behalf of the school, I want to say a very big thank you for coming to our aid. The gate will help keep the students secure and ensure they only go out with permission,” she stated.

CILT Vice President in charge of Education, Mr. Andrews Osei Mensah, noted that the project is part of a broader effort to support the school.

“Today is a happy day for us, and we are grateful to contribute to the lives of our young brothers and sisters. This is the beginning of many good things to come. We hope other corporate institutions and groups will replicate what we have done and also support the school,” he said.

Elizabeth Johnson, Import Supervisor at CONSHIP, reaffirmed her company’s commitment to supporting community initiatives.

“To help is our duty. We are always there whenever CILT calls on us. Safety is critical, and we are glad to be part of this venture. This project will benefit the students in the long run,” she remarked.

The PTA Chairman and other dignitaries present at the event commended CILT and CONSHIP for their generous contribution and encouraged other organizations to follow suit.

The newly installed gate is expected to significantly enhance security measures at the school, providing peace of mind to staff and parents.
