Ghana Police arrest 12 for looting and vandalism amid nationwide unrest
The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 12 individuals in connection with looting and property damage across various regions of the country.
Initial investigations suggest that the suspects were involved in a series of crimes, including assaults on state institutions and public facilities.
One of the most serious incidents involved the suspects setting fire to the Electoral Commission (EC) office in
, located in the Savannah Region. This attack is part of a broader wave of violence, with the suspects also implicated in assaults on the residences of District Chief Executives (DCEs) and the vandalism of several collation centers nationwide.
In another case, suspects broke into the School Feeding Project Warehouse in Tamale, Northern Region, and stole food items and supplies intended for the national feeding program.
Investigators have collected and are currently reviewing footage from the scenes of these attacks, looting, and vandalism. Efforts are ongoing to identify additional perpetrators and ensure they face appropriate consequences.
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to stay calm as security measures are strengthened. A police spokesperson stated, “Officers have been deployed to strategic locations, and patrols have been increased to restore order and prevent further violence.”
