Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has declared John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election.
Mr. Mahama won decisively with 6,328,397 votes, accounting for 56.55% of the total votes cast. His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.
The results were announced after counting votes from 267 constituencies. While the results from nine constituencies were still outstanding, the EC confirmed that they would not alter the final outcome.
Held on December 7, the election marked a significant return for John Mahama, underscoring his continued support among voters and paving the way for his leadership in the upcoming administration.
The total number of valid votes cast was 11,191,422, while 239,109 ballots were rejected. The overall number of votes cast amounted to 11,430,531.
Voter turnout was recorded at 60.9% based on results from 267 constituencies.
