TTU marks 70 years of excellence with grand durbar and legacy reflections
Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has concluded its year-long 70th-anniversary celebration with a vibrant grand durbar, showcasing seven decades of remarkable achievements in education, innovation, and societal contributions.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, reflected on TTU’s transformative journey, which has empowered countless individuals and fuelled national development. He highlighted the theme, “70 Years of Societal Relevance: The Journey of Takoradi Technical University,” as a fitting tribute to the institution’s impact over the years.
“For seven decades, TTU has been a beacon of hope and progress, shaping lives and contributing immensely to national development. Through education, research, and innovation, this institution has consistently aligned itself with the needs of society, producing graduates equipped to meet the demands of industry and the ever-evolving global landscape,” Rev. Prof. Eshun stated.
He detailed TTU’s accomplishments, including infrastructure expansion, new faculty introductions, the upgrading of the university hospital, and success in national competitions such as the Schlumberger Petro Challenge and the Statistical Data Hackathon. Prof. Eshun also called on alumni to strengthen their engagement with the University, emphasizing their vital role in achieving TTU’s vision of becoming a global hub for innovation and excellence.
“Our alumni play a crucial role in this mission. Your experiences, expertise, and networks are invaluable in helping us achieve our goals. We call on you to actively engage with the University, contribute to its growth, and help shape its future. I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to all who have contributed to the success of this University over the years. From our founding members to the current leadership, staff, and students, your unwavering dedication and support have been the bedrock of our progress.”
Prof. Humphrey Danso, Dean of the Graduate School at Akenten Appiah-Menka University and a proud TTU alumnus, delivered the keynote speech, commending TTU for the immense strides it has made in education and infrastructure.
“This institution not only equipped us with skills but also shaped our character. Let us be agents of transformation in our professional careers and communities, carrying the spirit of TTU with pride,” he encouraged.
Representing the Chairman of the University Governing Council, Ing. Robert Adjaye reiterated the Council’s commitment to steering TTU toward excellence and innovation, ensuring its alignment with academic and industry standards.
“Over the past 70 years, TTU has consistently adapted to meet the evolving needs of education and the workforce, equipping graduates with skills to drive national and global development,” he affirmed.
Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, applauded TTU’s contribution to the region and the nation, while urging greater prioritization of technical education as a cornerstone for development.
In a show of solidarity and support, various dignitaries and organizations made significant contributions to the anniversary celebrations. Sparks Construction firm donated GH¢100,000, while Effia Constituency’s parliamentary candidates, Lawyer Yaw Boamah of the NPP and Abdul Majeed of the NDC, contributed GH¢20,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively.
The GNPC Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, also an alumnus, encouraged alumni to mentor current students and strengthen ties with their alma mater.
The celebration’s success was credited to the TTU 70th Anniversary Committee, led by Prof. Victor Kweku Bondzie Micah, for their meticulous planning and execution of the year-long events.
