NDP Flagbearer Alhaji Frimpong advocates for inclusive governance, decentralization, and accountability

Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has highlighted the significance of inclusive governance, decentralization, and strong leadership in achieving Ghana’s democratic milestones.

Speaking during the presidential encounter at GBC on November 20, 2024, Frimpong emphasized that Ghana’s democracy depends on key areas such as social justice, accountability, and the improvement of livelihoods.

“Social justice, probity, and accountability are the cornerstones of our democracy; without them, progress is stifled, and our wheels get stuck,” he remarked.

Frimpong pointed out the need for transparency and oversight within trade unions, such as the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), to prevent financial mismanagement. He referenced the Auditor General’s report, which exposed significant financial irregularities within CLOGSAG.

“If trade unions had greater insight into the financial and administrative workings of their institutions, many of these infractions could be avoided,” he noted.

Frimpong also proposed a “green talents” policy to create entrepreneurial opportunities for both youth and retirees, utilizing Ghana’s agro-based economy and encouraging the development of food processing industries. “Empowering communities through entrepreneurial hubs and job creation is essential,” he stressed.

The NDP flagbearer cautioned against downplaying the importance of community involvement, asserting that it is central to Ghana’s democratic process.

“Decentralization is crucial; executive power must be transferred to local governance structures in the communities,” he stated.

He committed to establishing an inclusive government if elected president in the December 7 general election, emphasizing the importance of accountability and safeguarding whistleblowers.

“If an effective complaints redress system were in place, no one would dare to retaliate against someone,” he concluded.
