EC Confirms Unchanged Presidential Ballot Order Despite Kubi’s Disqualification
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the order of candidates on the presidential ballot for the 2024 general elections will remain unchanged, despite the recent disqualification of Philip Appiah Kubi, who was set to represent the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
This confirmation came from EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on November 12. She explained that altering the ballot order at this stage would cause unnecessary disruptions and complicate logistical planning, which the Commission is determined to avoid.
With 90% of the presidential ballots already printed, the EC is focused on maintaining the original ballot structure to ensure a smooth and timely electoral process. The Commission emphasized that any changes at this point could delay preparations that are already well advanced.
Philip Appiah Kubi had been nominated to replace Akua Donkor, the late founder of the GFP, who passed away on October 28. However, the EC found irregularities in Kubi’s nomination, resulting in his disqualification.
The EC also provided updates on other key milestones in its election preparations, including the publication of the certified voters’ register and the completion of essential election materials, highlighting its commitment to delivering a credible and efficient election process.
