Professor Akotey critiques Afenyo-Markin’s leadership style in Parliament

Professor Martin Akotey, a Political sociologist at Valley View University, has criticized the leadership style of Alex Afenyo-Markin, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus, in managing government business in Parliament.

He described Afenyo-Markin’s approach as “too combative,” suggesting it lacks the collaborative mindset needed to negotiate with the opposition and reach compromises on key parliamentary issues.

Prof. Akotey contrasted Afenyo-Markin’s leadership with former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, whom he described as handling parliamentary proceedings “much better.”

The political sociologist’s comments were in response to recent developments in Parliament, including the controversy involving Speaker Alban Bagbin and the Supreme Court.

“Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu did a much better job than Afenyo-Markin. Let’s not forget, it’s the same group of people, but I find the current leadership too confrontational,” Prof. Akotey stated.
