The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike that will begin on Thursday, November 7.
The strike is in response to the government’s delay in finalizing a new salary structure.
In a statement, CLOGSAG explained that the decision to strike comes after the deadline set for last week to finalize the salary structure passed without resolution.
The association pointed to the government’s failure to implement the agreed-upon salary adjustments, despite a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed last year.
CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, criticized the new proposed implementation date for the salary changes as unrealistic.
He further stated that CLOGSAG would no longer engage with the CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Benjamin Arthur, due to what the association views as bad faith in the negotiations.
In response, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has urged CLOGSAG to reconsider its decision to go on strike. In a statement, the Commission expressed its readiness to engage with CLOGSAG to find a lasting solution while emphasizing the need to uphold the principles of the Single Spine Pay Policy.
