Cynthia Morrison asserts her supporters did not fire shots at Agona West rally

Agona West

Cynthia Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West, has firmly denied any involvement of her supporters in a gunfire incident during a campaign rally in Agona West on Sunday, October 27.

In an interview with Citi News’ Central Regional Correspondent, Calvis Tetteh, she clarified that her group was not responsible for the gunfire, which left one person injured and created widespread panic at the event.

According to reports, the incident occurred when supporters of Chris Arthur, a parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were returning from a campaign launch in Otinkorang and encountered Morrison’s supporters holding a mini-rally in Agona Nyankrom.

During the encounter, gunfire broke out, injuring Haruna Rashid, Arthur’s campaign manager, who sustained a gunshot wound to his ribs and was rushed to Agona Swedru Government Hospital along with other individuals with minor injuries.

Morrison emphasized that she was unaware of the gunfire as it happened, stating that she only learned of the incident later when advised by police to leave the area.

She affirmed that her rally had been coordinated with the police, who provided 27 officers for security and mapped out the rally route.

The Central Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation, and Morrison expressed her hope for a swift resolution to prevent any escalation.

In light of the incident, community members and political supporters in Agona West are urging calm and encouraging all parties to maintain peaceful campaigns as elections approach.
