Deputy Education Minister Urges Organised Labour to reconsider strike

Deputy Minister for Education, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko has urged Organised Labour to rethink its planned nationwide strike over illegal mining (galamsey) concerns.

Speaking at the Ghana Teacher Prize event in Kumasi on October 3, Prof. Nyarko emphasized that industrial action is not the ideal solution and called for more dialogue between stakeholders.

This appeal follows Organised Labour’s announcement of a strike on October 10, citing the government’s failure to declare a state of emergency over the destructive impact of galamsey.

Prof. Nyarko, also the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts, involving civil society, traditional leaders, the clergy, and the media, to address the issue.

He appealed to Organised Labour to opt for continuous dialogue with the authorities instead of striking, as prolonged industrial action could reduce productivity and negatively impact national revenue.
