The Minerals Commission has appointed a six-member caretaker team to assist the regional manager in overseeing operations at the FGR Bogoso-Prestea mines, following the termination of the company’s mining leases.
This decision follows the government’s announcement last week, based on findings from various reports by the Minerals Commission and a review by the Ministerial Committee regarding the company’s operations.
The new measure was taken after extensive consultations with all stakeholders.
In the termination announcement, Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor indicated that previous operators had been warned in August 2023 about multiple breaches related to their mining activities.
Despite these warnings, the company failed to address the issues raised by the Minerals Commission.
In a notice, Minerals Commission CEO Martin Ayisi stated that the newly appointed caretaker team will immediately oversee the daily operations of the mine site.
