Second wave of pager explosions in Lebanon kills nine and injures 300
At least nine people have been killed, and over 300 injured in a second wave of explosions caused by wireless communication devices in Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry.
Reports indicate that walkie-talkies used by the armed group Hezbollah detonated in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon, areas considered Hezbollah strongholds.
Some of these explosions occurred during funerals for individuals among the 12 reported dead from an earlier incident on Tuesday.
The ministry confirmed that thousands of Hezbollah members’ pagers exploded across the country in that earlier event.
Hezbollah has accused Israel of orchestrating Tuesday’s explosions and has vowed to retaliate. Israel has not commented on the accusations.
