Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, has issued a strong warning about the potential risks of delaying the approval of Ghana’s lithium agreement.

During a parliamentary session, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized the limited availability of lithium resources, urging lawmakers to act quickly to prevent the country’s lithium assets from becoming stranded in the near future.

Speaking at a stakeholder forum in Parliament on Tuesday, September 3, he highlighted the crucial significance of the agreement, calling for its prompt passage through the legislative process.

His comments come amid a surge in global demand for lithium, a key material in the production of batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.

However, the MP cautioned that the opportunity to fully capitalize on this valuable resource may be shorter than expected.

He stated that if no action is taken, Ghana might soon face the prospect of stranded lithium assets, urging that the matter be approached with both urgency and caution.
