Dr. Bawumia Asserts Free SHS Has Boosted Education Outcomes in Ghana

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed claims that the free Senior High School (SHS) policy has led to a decline in the quality of education in the country.

Speaking to a group of Clergy, Imams, and opinion leaders in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Dr. Bawumia presented statistics showing improved student performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) under the free SHS program.

He refuted that the policy has negatively impacted education quality and urged the opinion leaders to compare his record with that of NDC candidate John Mahama. Bawumia criticized Mahama’s tenure, citing issues such as the cancellation of teachers’ and nurses’ training allowances, widespread power outages, the collapse of the NHIS, and a shortage of ambulances. He urged voters to support him on December 7.

Despite global economic challenges, the NPP has successfully delivered on its key 2016 campaign promise of implementing free SHS, enabling more students, especially girls, to attend school.

Mike Oquaye, the Parliamentary candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, reported to the gathering that road repairs are underway in the constituency and that residents have been registered for the NHIS.

He also committed to providing the Dome-Kwabenya constituency with its first astroturf, with the sod-cutting ceremony set for next week.
