Wrestling champion Sid Eudy dies aged 63
Sid Eudy, the renowned six-time wrestling champion and WWE icon, has died at the age of 63 after a prolonged battle with cancer, his family announced on Monday.
Known in the wrestling world as Sid Justice, Sid Vicious, and Sycho Sid, Eudy gained fame in the 1990s for his imposing and formidable presence in the ring.
His son, Gunnar Eudy, paid tribute to his father on Facebook, describing him as “a man of strength, kindness, and love” and expressing that he would be “greatly missed.”
Gunnar thanked supporters for their condolences and said that details for a memorial service would be shared soon.
Born on December 16, 1960, in Arkansas, Eudy entered the wrestling scene in 1989 with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he competed against notable teams like The Four Horsemen and The Steiner Brothers.
WWE praised Eudy’s legacy, stating: “Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling superstars cemented his legacy in WWE, and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world.”
Eudy made his WWE debut as Sid Justice and notably served as the special guest referee at SummerSlam 1991 alongside WWE legend Hulk Hogan.
His career highlights include two WWE (formerly WWF) championship wins, two WCW heavyweight championship titles, and headlining WrestleMania twice.
WWE also noted that his career was significantly impacted by a severe leg injury in 2001.
Tributes from fans and fellow wrestlers have poured in. Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T Huffman acknowledged Eudy’s influence, saying, “Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW.”
He extended his condolences to Eudy’s family, highlighting the wrestler’s lasting impact on the industry.
Eudy is survived by his wife, Sabrina Paige, and his two children.
