Power Producers Dispute Government’s Claim of Debt Settlement

Independent Power Generators Ghana, IPGG says it is unfair for government officials to continue to inform the public that the government has completed negotiations with Independent Power Generators on settlement of accumulated debt when that is not the case.

Chief Executive of IPGG, Dr. Elikplim Agbetorgbor said, the power purchasing agreement is inconclusive.

The re-negotiation process between the government and the IPPs has not been concluded, the process in some cases with the IPPs has stalled since March and others, June. It is inaccurate for the government or the ministers to make such wrongful pronouncements. It is not fair to the process, it devalues the integrity of the process,”

Let’s understand that these are very sensitive international commercial issues and should be treated as such. This propaganda of political colour poses a great risk of pressure or what I will call transferred aggression from our principal or interested parties on our default obligations,” Dr. Agbetorgbor said.
