Former Ghanaian Times cashier accused of misappropriating GH¢100,000

Ghanaian Times

The Auditor General has cited Solomey Quarcoopome, a former cashier of the Ghanaian Times, for allegedly misappropriating approximately GH¢100,000 in revenue over a two-year period.

The allegations against Quarcoopome include failing to deposit collected revenues into the company’s accounts, tearing up sections of receipts, and concealing entire receipt booklets.

Martin Adu-Owusu, Managing Director of the New Times Corporation, appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on August 15, where he reported that the case has been referred to the police and efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen funds.

Adu-Owusu explained that the discrepancies were discovered during an internal audit . “We realised that there were some of the receipts she tore, and she kept them. Some of the money was not banked and even some of the whole receipts could also not be found.”

“Unfortunately, this is what happened, and she doesn’t look like somebody who can do this but when we put all the figures together it was about GH¢100,000.

So far, Quarcoopome has repaid part of the amount, leaving an outstanding balance of GH¢70,275. She has been dismissed from her position, and the police are currently handling the case.
