GTA to collaborate with Ministry of Roads to improve access to tourist sites

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to enhance road networks leading to the country’s key tourist sites.

This initiative comes in response to numerous complaints from tourists regarding the poor condition of these roads, particularly during the rainy season.

In a statement to journalists, Akwasi Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, confirmed ongoing efforts to upgrade tourism infrastructure in the coming months.

He acknowledged the need for continued engagement with other agencies to address these concerns, emphasizing the importance of improving access to tourist sites, especially during challenging weather conditions.

Agyeman noted that one of the main areas of focus is ensuring that the “last mile” of roads leading to tourist destinations is in good condition, as these are often the most affected by the rains.

In addition to addressing infrastructure issues, Agyeman highlighted the strong performance of Ghana’s tourism sector in the first half of 2024, with nearly 600,000 tourists visiting the country during this period. He expressed optimism that the sector is on track for a successful year.
