Development Eluding Western Region Due To Chieftaincy Issues – Director for Ghana Tourism Authority

Tourism Development has evaded the Western Region because of chieftaincy issues, the Regional Director for Western and Western North Region of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), George Nkrumah Ansere has said.

According to him, chieftaincy issues are hampering the development and promotion of tourism in the region hence the low records of tourists witnessed.

“Chieftaincy issues have been a major setback in the development of tourism, and that is the reason the tourism industry is lagging in the region,” he said.

Mr Ansere, moreover, mentioned that the unity of traditional leaders can promote and enhance the tourism industry to attract tourists into the region.

“We are working with the Regional House of Chiefs to bring together traditional leaders in a bid to promote tourism,” He added.

He spoke in an interview on Beach FM, in fulfilment of highlighting tourist sites, traditional delicacies, and music amongst others in the Western Region.

The Director also revealed that the region has more forts and castles as compared to other regions and his outfit is working around the clock to inculcate masquerade popularly known as ‘Ankos’ into the festival celebration to bring in more tourists into the region.
