GJA Inaugurates 28th Awards Committee Ahead of 75th Anniversary Celebration

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) inaugurated its 28th GJA Awards Committee on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in Accra.

This nine-member committee, comprising respected media professionals, has been established to ensure a transparent process in identifying and selecting journalists who have excelled over the past year.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “75 Years of Excellence in Journalism: The Role of the Media in Democratic Governance and Elections.”

Addressing the media at the inauguration event, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, president of the GJA, emphasized that this year’s award ceremony will be more significant as it coincides with the GJA’s 75th Anniversary celebration.

He highlighted the association’s successful track record in organizing past awards without controversy or negative feedback, expressing confidence that the upcoming 28th Awards ceremony will be equally well-received and praised.

The Chairman of the Committee, George-Ramsey Benamba, who is also the Chief Editor for the Ghana News Agency, assured all participants of a professionally executed and successful event.

He expressed gratitude to the GJA executives for the opportunity and promised that the committee would uphold high standards in their work.

The committee members include Jamila Akweley Okertchiri, Editor of Daily Guide Network; Loretta Vanderpuye, Regional Director of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Obonu FM/TV; Joana Afua Mensah, News Editor at United Television (UTV); and Isaac Yeboah, Editor of Myjoyonline.com.

Other members are William A. Asiedu, Head of News at 3FM and Co-host of Sunrise Morning Show on TV3; Nana Kofi Acquah, International Photojournalist; Michael Quaye, Deputy News Editor at Daily Graphic; and Isaac Nuamah Yeboah, News Director at Atinka Media Village.

The Award Committee will select winners in 36 categories for honors at this year’s ceremony, scheduled for September 28, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Center.
