Three arrested in ambush killing of Florida rapper Julio Foolio
Three individuals have been arrested and two others are being sought in connection with the ambush killing of Florida rapper Julio Foolio last month.
Charles Jones, 26, who performed under the stage name Julio Foolio, was shot dead on June 23 in a hotel parking lot in Tampa.
Surveillance footage from the hotel shows the attackers, dressed in black and wearing masks, positioning themselves in the parking lot before opening fire with two semi-automatic rifles and a pistol.
The shooting occurred during a weekend of birthday celebrations that Jones had announced on social media.
Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Sean Gathright, 18, were arrested over the weekend and are facing murder charges.
Two additional suspects, Davion Murphy, 27, and Rashad Murphy, 30, are also wanted on similar charges but remain at large.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw reported that three other people were injured in the attack but survived. Detectives used hotel CCTV footage, license plate readers, and phone records to identify the suspects.
The attackers are believed to be members of rival gangs ATK and Twelve Hundred, who allegedly collaborated for the attack. Jones was affiliated with the Six Block Gang.
In the hours leading up to his death, Jones had been posting on Instagram about his birthday celebrations and mentioned that police had “shut us down.”
Foolio, who has nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify, was known for his track “Voo Doo” and had recently described his life as “tragic” due to “multiple attempts on my life.”
