Man, aged 30, apprehended for attempting to exchange his niece for a visa
The Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit (PID) has arrested Nana Kofi Amofa, alias Kofi Yesu, a 30-year-old man, for allegedly attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece.
Mr. Amofa was apprehended on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm in Gomoa Buduburam, near Obolo Estate in the Central Region.
Police revealed that they received information indicating that the suspect had expressed a desire to sell the 6-year-old girl to obtain money for travel to Canada.
Officers from the Police Intelligence Unit then posed as potential buyers, and during the transaction, Amofa requested GH¢150,000.
After his arrest, Amofa confessed that the little girl was the daughter of his older brother, Kwadwo Brako, who currently lives in Nyamebekyere, a village near Akyem Ayirebi in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Amofa also disclosed that he had invited his niece to stay with him to provide her with better educational opportunities.
Adomfmonline reported that both the child and Amofa have been transferred to the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.
