LPG Marketers Association Denies Opposition to Cylinder Recirculation Module, Calls for Impartiality from NPA

LPG Marketers Association has refuted claims that it’s opposed to the cylinder recirculation module.

In a statement issued and signed by its Vice President, Gabriel Kumi, the Association states that the allegations are false.

According to the statement, the Association has engaged in numerous discussions with the National Petroleum Authority, NPA, and agreed that both the refiling and CRM systems should operate side-by-side.

It said the advertisements are solely aimed at promoting LPG usage to protect the environment, and promote indigenous businesses and not to oppose CRM.

The Association criticized a statement from the NPA suggesting that it is resisting change, acknowledging that transitioning from refilling to CRM would be costly.

The Association noted that the current refilling system provides over 10,000 jobs including 8,000 direct and 2,000 indirect positions and questions the job creation claims made by NPA regarding CRM.

It said that simply claiming that CRM will generate ‘aboboya’ jobs is insufficient, lacks transparency and can only have propaganda and a populist value.

The Association therefore called on NPA to uphold its regulatory role with impartiality and ensure a fair and balanced approach for all stakeholders in the industry.
