Akufo-Addo has condemned the attempted assassination of Donald Trump
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing that politically motivated violence undermines the principles of democracy and peace.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 13, at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was injured. Shots were fired as Trump was speaking, causing panic among the crowd as Secret Service agents swiftly moved to protect the former president.
In a statement, President Akufo-Addo expressed his outrage and extended his best wishes to Trump and the American people.
He stated that on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, he condemns in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, noting that such acts of politically motivated violence have no place in our world and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear.
He added that they send their heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and they pray for his swift and complete recovery.
Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, reported being shot in the ear, describing a “whizzing sound” and feeling a “bullet ripping through the skin.”
The FBI identified the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
The attack resulted in one spectator’s death and critically injured two others.
