NAGRAT urges Schools to allow students access to external medical care
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called on senior high school heads to permit students to seek external medical care when needed.
This appeal follows a court ruling holding Achimota School liable for negligence in the death of a student, Kervin Kofi Moses, eight years ago. The school has been ordered to pay GH¢600,000 in damages for the 2016 incident.
In an interview with Citi News, NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu emphasized that school authorities should promptly release students requiring medical attention.
Carbonu noted that school staff are not medical professionals and should not assess the severity of a student’s illness, urging them to refer such cases to competent medical personnel.
The tragic case of Achimota School highlights the importance of ensuring students have access to appropriate medical care without unnecessary delays or denials by school officials.
