A tragic incident unfolded on the wedding day of a Thai para-athlete and ex-soldier, Chaturong Suksuk, 29, who fatally shot his bride, Kanchana Pachunthuek, 44, along with three others before taking his own life, as confirmed by the police.

The wedding ceremony took place in northeast Thailand, with reports indicating that Chaturong abruptly left the wedding party and returned armed with a gun.

He proceeded to shoot his wife, her 62-year-old mother, and her 38-year-old sister.

Two guests were also hit by stray bullets and were rushed to the hospital, where one of them later succumbed to the injuries.

The police mentioned that Chaturong was heavily intoxicated during the incident, although his motive remains unclear. He legally acquired the gun and ammunition last year.

Reports suggested that there was an argument between the couple during the wedding party, and Chaturong reportedly felt uneasy about the age gap between him and Kanchana.

However, the police emphasized that these details were speculative, stating that they were collecting evidence and expected to close the case soon.

Chaturong and Kanchana had lived together for three years before getting married, according to Thai media.

Chaturong, a para-athlete, had previously won a silver medal in swimming at the Asean Para Games in Indonesia and was set to participate in the World Abilitysport Games in Thailand the following month.

He had lost his right leg while serving with the paramilitary light infantry force, which patrols Thailand’s borders.

Though mass shootings are uncommon in Thailand, the country has high rates of gun ownership.

Notably, in recent events, three people were killed in a shooting at a luxury mall in Bangkok, and last October, a former policeman fatally injured 37 children in a gun and knife attack at a nursery in northeast Thailand.
