Fisheries Enforcement Unit enforces closed fishing Season
The Fisheries Enforcement Unit of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has issued a stern warning to fisherfolk to strictly adhere to the closed fishing season exercise.
Commodore Francis Ayiteyvi Nyarko, the National Coordinator of the unit, announced that sufficient personnel have been deployed along the coast to ensure compliance with the closed season, which began on July 1 for both artisanal fishermen and industrial trawlers.
In a media briefing, Commodore Nyarko stated that the marine police, navy, and other security agencies are actively involved in monitoring and enforcement. He emphasized that any individuals found violating the closed season regulations would face legal consequences.
Commodore Nyarko explained that anyone arrested would be handed over to the police for appropriate action. He detailed that the enforcement team includes the Marine Police, the Navy, MCS personnel, and other security personnel, working closely with the Navy.
The police are fully supportive, making it a collaborative effort. He emphasized that the closed season is a law being enforced, and they expect compliance from the fisherfolk.
The government’s implementation of the closed fishing season is part of ongoing efforts to ensure sustainable fishing practices and the long-term health of marine ecosystems.
